Baker Act Essentials

This 5-hour, self-paced course is designed for Florida behavioral health professionals who need to understand and apply the Baker Act in real-world practice. The course goes beyond basic awareness to explain how Florida’s mental health law works across the system of care—from involuntary examination and the 72-hour period through treatment, individual rights, court-ordered services, discharge, and special requirements for minors and other populations.

Updated to reflect current Florida law, rules, forms, and procedures (2026), the course uses plain-language explanations, realistic scenarios, and practical examples to make complex requirements easier to understand and apply. The four-module course is supported by three illustrative vignette modules to guide learners through every phase of Florida’s Baker Act. Learners also receive comprehensive reference tools that can be used everyday.
